How to Avoid Online Scams & Fraud

Here are a few simple steps to safe online shopping…

1. Check out the merchant at resellerratings.com. Read the reviews closely. They’re from other buyers like yourself.2. Are they really there? Send a test email to them. How long did it take to respond? Try calling and checking if the number works. Tons of sites don’t respond quickly to simple questions. Imagine how frustrating that could be if you actually bought something there.

3. Jump on google and do a search for “companyname review”. I’ve found some interesting stuff this way.

4. When you enter the Checkout process, does it say https:// in the address? Is there a locked padlock on the lower tight side of your browser? There should be. This means all traffic is safe.

5. Do you see a lot of seals from Better Business Bureau, Verisign, BizRate, CNet, etc? Do me a flavor. Try clicking on those seals. If they?re not links to information about the rating of that specific web site, they?re fake. Many times, the seals aren?t links at all. Just wallpaper. Wallpaper that says ?Ripoff in progress.?

6. Check the shipping. If the site doesn’t state costs up front then beware. They’ll probably stick you with high shipping charges to make up for great deals.

Good Luck and be safe out there. Oh, and avoid Broadway Photo like the plague.
