Our Cheap Trinidad and Tobago Long Distance Provider ($0.13/min)

We have family in Trinidad and Tobago. Chaguanas to be exact. They have both landlines and Trinidad cellphones. For a long time, we’ve been using AT&T’s Long Distance to call Trinidad and Tobago for $0.34/min. I finally got tired of the $200+ phone bills and started looking around for Long Distance providers that would offer a cheaper calling rate to Trinidad and Tobago. Looking was a pain in the ass. But I finally found a decent one that was NOT a 1010 dial around and NOT a calling card. They are a true Telco with good rates. There are catches but I still feel it’s better than Bellsouth/AT&T’s $0.34/min rates to call Trinidad and Tobago. Read the rest of this entry »

How to Track Opens/Clicks in Newsletter & Email Campaigns Using Google Analytics

Q: I was wondering if anyone knows a good tutorial on how to track email campaigns on new google analytics system, it says it does it but not clarify at all how to access this feature.I would imagine it is probably through link tracking on the email but it isnt clear where the interface to check the data would appear in google analytics

A:   You are right, it is through link tracking. First, you have to track all the links in your email, like this:

?utm_campaign=spring&utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletter&utm_content=June07

(remember, if you already have a dynamic url and therefore, already have a question mark in the url, you should start with a & sign)

You probably want to replace *spring *with the name of your campaign. You could skip the content part and just make the utm_source=newsletterJune07, depending on how you want to see the data.

Email campaign data will appear in a number of reports, depending on how the links are tagged.

The Traffic Sources > Campaigns report will display the campaign name used in the link tag.

The Traffic Sources > All Traffic Sources will display the source / medium that was used in the link tagging.

You can also choose ‘medium’ from the ‘Show’ drop down box on the All Traffic Sources report. If you’ve used the same medium for your email campaigns (which you should!) then all the traffic from emails will be rolled up into a single line item.

If you’re unfamiliar with link tagging here is a good primer.

How to Enable Pressure Sensitivity in a Gateway C140 Tablet PC in Photoshop, Painter, ArtRage

The Gateway C140 Tablet PC is capable of pressure sensitivity. But if you’re an artist, you’ll soon discover that the pressure sensitivity is not enabled in Photoshop, Illustrator, ArtRage or Corel Painter. The fix for this is to install Wacom drivers and then hack the registry. Please do the following at your own risk. I got pressure sensitivity working on Vista Home on a Gateway C140XL by following the below.

  1. Create a System Restore point just in case.
  2. Temporarily disable Windows Defender or any Anti-Virus program you may have running.
  3. Download and install the the Wacom 5.05-7(RC) Vista drivers from the link below.
    http://www.wacom.com/productsupport/drivers.cfm?os=Vista&product=CTE4
    DO NOT REBOOT YET!
  4. Next comes the Registry hacking. Please be careful here…
  5. 1. Click on Start, then Run, then enter RegEdit in the Open textbox and click OK. In Vista, click start and in the Search box, type ‘Regedit’.

    2. Click KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE then SYSTEM then CurrentControlSet then Services then TabletServicePen then PARAMETERS.

    3. In the right-hand window pane, right click, then click New and then DWORD.

    4. In the new dialog that opened, type WTKernelBypass, then click somewhere else to let it fill in.

    5. Close the Registry Editor.

    6. Reboot, then run your program. Everything should work ok..

Simply Audio Books: A Review of SimplyAudioBooks.com

I recently subscribed to www.simplyaudiobooks.com and I thought I would write a quick review of what my experience was like. I’m the kind of person that likes to be productive. I also enjoy learning quite a bit. Lately though it’s been harder to find time to sit down with a book and read 200-400 pages of text. Especially after a long day of designing websites and staring at a computer screen. Enter Simply Audio Books. Read the rest of this entry »
